Overview

Under minimum supervision, the Field Technical Manager will lead technical product development and production launch activities for Sharp’s portfolio of automotive LCD, Touch Panel. Professional technical engineering knowledge is required to make design decisions and recommendations involving fundamental engineering principles. This is a high customer facing role that requires strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, high energy, and the ability to develop strong customer relations. In addition one key responsibility will be to communicate on a daily basis with core design team in Japan. Effective time and task management capability is highly desired.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the technical design of new products from initial kickoff through production launch
  • Thorough knowledge of design, development of electrical components and systems, working knowledge of test engineering, manufacturing operations, and engineering process and procedures
  • Working knowledge of embedded electronic design, printed circuit board layout, microprocessors, switching power supplies, embedded software, EMC testing, thermal analysis, and module validation testing
  • Develops technical documents to assist customers with interfacing to our LCD products
  • Communicate with the design team in Japan on a very frequent basis and manage the communication between the Sharp Japan team and customers.
  • Conduct and lead face-to-face meetings between customers (OEM and Tier1) that leads to design solutions
  • Directs the establishment of regular engineering meetings with major customers to elicit current product update needs and to insure proper future design planning
  • Strong commitment to providing world-class customer service and support to exceed expectations by taking the initiative and anticipating customer needs throughout the designing, promoting, and delivery of products
  • Ability to work well in a team environment (globally distributed) as well as work independently of day-to-day supervision
  • Strong leadership ability to keep the joint team on track to meet all program milestones and deliveries
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills with an ability to carefully and systematically evaluate information generating possible alternatives and consequences
  • Excellent presentation skills that will effectively communicate to an audience in a formal setting as well as all levels of the organization
  • Ability to influence and shape the decisions of others and to work through issues or conflicts.

 

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Report, on a continual basis, all activities and counsel with the Operations Manager and Branch Sales Manager
  • Maintain a good communications flow with manufacturer's representatives to insure all technical questions are answered
  • Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with all accounts, with special emphasis on key and target accounts
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with all department personnel and a continuous harmonious relationship with all Sharp global employees.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • BA/BS degree or higher in Engineering
  • 3+ or more years’ experience in Design or System Application Engineering in the automotive area
  • Written and oral communication in Japanese and English is required
  • Must have excellent communication skills and technical knowledge combined as to effectively communicate on an engineering level with customers and assist with the "design in" of various electronic components
  • Must have excellent lab skills (using oscilloscopes, logic analyzer, network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, optical measurement equipment, soldering skills etc.)
