Overview

Sharp Electronics Corporation, the U.S. subsidiary of Japan’s Sharp Corporation, is seeking an experienced, business-oriented attorney to join its U.S. Legal Department as Associate General Counsel. This role is based at Sharp’s U.S. headquarters and supports a wide range of commercial, operational, and strategic legal matters across the organization.

Sharp Electronics is U.S. sales and marketing company of smart office technologies, home appliances, office solutions, professional displays, and component devices. Our U.S. operations span approximately 1,400 employees in about 53 offices nationwide across 18 States in the U.S. The Legal Department plays a critical role in enabling the business to operate efficiently, responsibly, and in compliance with applicable laws, while remaining aligned with Sharp’s culture of service and collaboration.

The ideal candidate is practical, solutions-oriented, and comfortable operating as a trusted legal advisor to the business units, senior leadership, and all support teams throughout the organization.  A roll up your sleeves attitude is really required so that it aligns with our culture of service here in the Legal Department.  Practically speaking, you are going to have to interact with a number of different people throughout the organization, from administrative staff all the way up to the Chairman of the entire company.  When you do so, you will represent everyone here in the Legal Department so your ability to communicate effectively with whoever it is that needs your help matters.

Responsibilities

What would your responsibilities be and what are we looking for?

  • As Associate General Counsel, you will serve as a key legal partner to Sharp’s business units, providing day-to-day legal advice on contracts, commercial operations, marketing initiatives, and anything that impacts their business.
  • You will work closely with executives, department heads, and employees to understand business objectives and provide clear, actionable legal guidance.  An ideal candidate has the ability to balance legal risk with business realities to offer practical solutions that allows the business team to take acceptable risks.
  • A significant portion of this role involves reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide variety of agreements across both B2B and B2C business units. These may include purchase and sale agreements, vendor and supplier contracts, service orders, leasing and credit agreements, program letters, and other commercial arrangements. You will also conduct legal reviews of marketing and advertising programs, promotional materials, and other public-facing communications to ensure compliance with applicable laws and internal standards.
  • Depending on your skill set, you may also be asked to oversee and coordinate matters handled by outside counsel, including both transactional and litigation matters, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and alignment with company objectives.
  • Disney has a motto for their employees at their theme parks, “Everyone picks up paper.” That means that what has to get done isn’t “someone else’s” job.  Here in the Legal Department, there is no job that is “beneath” anyone.  Everyone pitches in to do what is needed from the Senior Vice-President to the administrative staff.  If there is anything about the preceding that you disagree with, please do not apply as it simply would not be the right culture fit.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • 5-7 years of relevant commercial legal experience
  • Ability to manage complex legal matters independently while collaborating effectively across functions
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-management skills
  • Practical, business-oriented approach with a strong service mindset
  • Sharp’s Legal Department operates with a team-first philosophy. Success in this role requires flexibility, accountability, and a willingness to support the organization wherever our expertise is needed.
